Pisek

City Description

The Municipality of Pisek has a population of approximately 30,000, an urban area of just over 63km2 and a population density of 475 per km2. Písek is considered a mid-sized city situated in the South-Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, approximately one-hour travel time to Prague. Its economy has been significantly strengthened by foreign direct investment (FDI) in the industrial zone north of the city, with strong influences from the automotive industry and electro-technics. The Technology Centre Písek and Centre of Low Energy Buildings are two innovation centres built as ‘brownfield site investments’ at a total investment cost of €40M.

The city of Písek is expecting to design Positive Energy Blocks and Districts in which the Municipal house, newly designed parking garage and some of the primary school buildings or kindergartens will be engaged. Cooperation with the private sector is essential for the project. The intention is involving also the Technology Centre Písek and the Centre of Low Energy Buildings which are located in the brownfield area. The municipal house is located in the historical-protected area. The parking garage and some schools are located in the broader centre. The municipal building and schools were in recent years revitalised through exploiting energy performance contracting. The parking garage is in the planning phase. At the centre of Low Energy Buildings are the large installations of PVs and battery storages. The Technology Centre is a data centre. Necessary data is being collected in order to design a planned ecosystem of positive energy blocks and districts. The main law governing energy trade is called Energy Act. Currently, it is in the process of change. The peer-to-peer energy trading is expected to be enabled in the upcoming version.
